The beginning

We all have to start somewhere.  This is my beginning, the start of what I hope will be a (semi-) regular blog for interesting, important, mundane, or amusing things that come from or are about data.  We swim in a sea of data about all kinds of things.  Sometimes we can take a few data points and instantly understand our situation.  This is true for our bank balance or our paycheck amount.  Sometimes we only understand what the data is telling us when we aggregate it together.  The patterns then emerge that make the mass of numbers meaningful and real.  Every set of data has a story to tell, but some grip their truths tighter than others.  If you find what I have to say interesting or at least amusing, I hope you'll comment and follow my blog.  I look forward to the conversation.
